Collection Information: | No special patient preparation is required. Obtain specimen by standard collection procedures. | ||
Transport Information: | Deliver to lab immediately. All specimens must be signed into the laboratory. | ||
Reference Client: | If unable to deliver to laboratory immediately, centrifuge specimen and remove serum from the red cells. Store and transport at 2-8° C within 5 days. Store and transport frozen at -20° C if unable to deliver sample within 5 days. | ||
Causes for Rejection: | Improperly labeled, incorrect container, contaminated, insufficient quantity, incorrect/delay in transport. | ||

Additional Information: | The Hepatitis A Total Antibody Screen detects both IgG and IgM antibodies. A reflexive Hepatitis A IgM antibody is performed on all positive screens. A positive Hepatitis A IgM is characteristic of an acute infection. Specimens containing sodium azide may give false positive results. |
